The Christmas Shonkey: A Story of Redemption

Today's story is about redemption.

It's about second chances.

It's about those who admit their wrong-doing and take steps to make it right.

In order to appreciate what transpired on Sunday morning you must read THIS, the Tale of The Christmas Shonkey. I'm afraid without a little backstory it will be impossible to understand the magnitude of what took place.

Just before Sunday School started yesterday our co-teacher Mrs. Tonya called The Ocho out into the hallway. She offered her most sincere apologies for transgressions that occurred 6 six years ago not far away from the very spot in which they stood. And then she presented Ocho with something that has been rightfully hers all along:

The Shonkey finally got her donkey head! And there was peace and joy throughout the land.

OK. So, maybe The Ocho's only flashing that cheesy smile because I made her. And, let's be honest, she only agreed to wear the donkey head because it was Mrs. Tonya who asked her to and not me.

But I felt it was important that Mrs. Tonya was given the chance to redeem herself. And the Shonkey had a chance to be exactly what God had created her to be. (And I knew the kind of blog goldmine this was going to be.)

So, if you've ever doubted that second chances exist just look at all the inspiring stories in just the past few days. There's the Man with the Golden Voice AND The Shonkey with the Appropriate Headpiece.

So please don't ever give up hope. No matter how impossible your situation may seem, your donkey head might show up just when you least expect it. : )

Let us also point out that the awesome redeemed Mrs. Tonya did NOT give her that in front of the entire class- talk about shame! Thank goodness for seet redemption (and a preschool department that holds onto donkey heads for a really long time!).
