Last night was Little Ocho's 3rd dance recital. This year's dance experience was a little rougher than years past. When we signed up in September, I reasoned that taking a class on Wednesday's at 4:30 would be just a super awesome idea since I was also working all day at school and we had church from 6:30 til 9:00. How smart of me to schedule every single activity for the week on the same day! Then there was the added stress that not one single friend of the Ocho's was taking her class. She's a lot like her mom in the area of needing her peeps around. She persevered and made it through to finally reap the benefits of all that hard work and bad scheduling which included wild applause from the entourage and a shiny new trophy for her bookshelf.
She always loves recital night but this year she was downright giddy. First of all, she got to wear eyeshadow, mascara and lipstick. And as if that weren't enough, this year's jazz routine was to Hannah Montana's "Pumpin' Up the Party." All of that and a gold trophy too? Life just doesn't get any better than that.
During the performance I had the pleasure of sitting beside my girl Big Nanny. Lil' Nanny was in the recital as well so we had great fun giving commentary to each other and listening to Lawnmower Man ask "how many more are there?" after each and every dance. There was great laughter thanks to the 3 year old classes. One provided an awesome hissy-fit crier and the other a precious little girl who was able to dance and emote every single word of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" with passion and conviction. There was also awkward horror. It's a bit unsettling to watch middle school girls dance to songs with highly inappropriate lyrics. "Jesse's Girl" might seem harmless but not when 12 year old's are lip-syncing about "lovin him with that body". Big Nanny was taking detailed notes on her program so I'm expecting a full report on her blog soon.
